RICKY Burns won his latest fight with a comfortable victory over London-based Silence Saheed.
The Coatbridge super-featherweight was too strong for his opponent, despite weighing considerably less.
Burns (24) was dominant from the first bell and took the fight to Saheed and landed a succession of good punches before the ref stopped the fight following a flurry of blows towards the end of the fourth round.
Since his defeat to Carl Johannesson last year, Burns has won six fights, albeit against limited boxers, but he was delighted with his latest performance.
He said: “I was pleased with the win. It was good to stop him because he’s a resiliant fighter and doesn’t get stopped very often.
“I caught him with a few good shots and I could sense he was on his way so that’s when I went in with a flurry of punches.
“He was a lot heavier than me and I had to put on a few pounds to match him. I’ll need to get back to my usual training routine now it’s over.”
Friday’s fight was held at the Dalziel Park Country Club and the first held by local promoter Carlo Rea.
It was a sellout and an overwhelming success. Also on the bill before Burns was fellow Coatbridge fighter Chris Black, who beat Tony Randall in a six-round fight.
Burns added: “I think everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and I think all the local fighters put in a good show.
“I was only too happy to help out Carlo and I hope he goes from strength to strength after the success of his first night.”
Burns is now hoping to fight again on March 22 on the undercard when Gavin Rees takes on Andreas Kotelnik in Cardiff.
He added: “I’m hoping to get my opponent confirmed soon and I’m back at full training again and I’ll be losing a few pounds after I gained a few to fight Silence Saheed.”
