IRN-BRU SECOND DIVISION:
FORFAR ATHLETIC 4 ALBION ROVERS 2
It's now eight defeats on the trot for rock-bottom Rovers who are staring relegation in the face unless league reconstruction renders the campaign meaningless.
Todd Lumsden's men are 12 points adrift of both the relegation play-off spot and automatic survival ahead of this weekend's visit of Alloa Athletic.
At Station Park on Tuesday night, Rovers actually took the lead through Pat Walker, pictured, who scored his first goal since returning to the club.
But three goals in 10 minutes either side of the interval put Forfar into a commanding position. A red card for Rovers midfielder Peter Innes only made matters worse.
Lumsden made two changes to the side which lost 3-0 at leaders Queen of the South with Glenn Thomson, signed on loan from Dumbarton until the end of the season, and Walker replacing Chris Dallas and Robbie Winters.
Veteran striker Winters had played his final game as a trialist for Rovers at the weekend. A contract offer has been made but he has, so far, decided not to put pen to paper.
In the 12th minute, Rovers went in front. A corner from Gary Phillips was flicked on by Marvin Andrews for Walker who knocked the ball home.
But the Loons levelled just before the break with Danny Denholm converting Gavin Malin's delivery from the right flank.
Rovers needed to keep things tight but Forfar struck twice early in the second half to leave them with a mountain to climb.
Martyn Fotheringham slotted Dale Hilson's pass into the net with Hilson, himself, firing a shot beyond keeper Matt McGinley to make it 3-1.
Referee Paul Robertson gave Innes his marching orders in the 57th minute after booking him for a second time. At this point, all hope seemed lost.
However, Rovers kept battling and reduced the deficit eight minutes later when centre-back Andrews powerfully headed home.
When Denholm was cautioned for the second time, and sent packing by Robertson, it was 10 v 10 and all to play for.
But Malin's effort from the edge of the box in the 83rd minute was too good for McGinley and ensured the points would be staying in Angus.
