Matchday Live: Albion Rovers 2 Forfar 3

IRN-BRU SECOND DIVISION:

ALBION ROVERS 2 FORFAR ATHLETIC 3

Rovers fought back from 2-0 down but an injury-time strike from Barry Sellars earned Forfar victory at Cliftonhill on Tuesday night.

The small crowd at Cliftonhill were treated to an exciting match but the ending provided only heartache for the home support.

As a result of this defeat, and Stranraer's 1-0 win at East Fife, Todd Lumsden's men will spend Christmas four points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Rovers gaffer Lumsden made three changes to the side that suffered a narrow loss at Stenhousemuir on Saturday.

Ciaran Donnelly replaced the injured Mick O'Byrne, Chris Boyle came in for the banned Simon Marriott and Steven Howarth was included at the expense of Tony Stevenson.

But it was the visitors who made the best possible start with James Craigen firing home after just 54 seconds.

The Loons midfielder then made it 2-0 in the 24th minute with a fine finish from Gavin Swankie's cutback.

However, two goals in the space of five minutes drew Rovers level before the break.

Boyle struck after Alan Reid and Christie Elliot had both mishit a Howarth cross with the latter adding the equaliser from a Boyle pass.

Forfar were denied on numerous occasions by Cliftonhill keeper Matt McGinley who made great saves from Swankie, Ross Campbell and Martyn Fotheringham.

At the other end, a Donnelly volley, from Gary Phillips' corner, struck the bar in the 75th minute.

However, Forfar would have the last word with Sellars converting Fotheringham's corner to help his side cement third place in the standings.
