Airdrie United striker in line for debut

Liam Buchanan, pictured here in his time with Partick Thistle, has signed for Airdrie.

New signing Liam Buchanan will make his Airdrie debut at Morton – if the Irn-Bru First Division clash beats the big freeze.

The 27-year-old striker has signed a short-term deal at New Broomfield until the turn of the year.

And with John and Jack Boyle both suspended for the trip to Cappielow, Buchanan has an early chance to make a positive impact.

Boss Jimmy Boyle said: “We’d been in contact with Liam for a while and I’m delighted to bring him to the club.

“He is a player we know well and I’m sure he will be a good addition to the squad in the time that he is with us. He wants to play and he’ll get that opportunity here.”

Buchanan arrives at Airdrie having been part of League of Ireland club Sligo Rovers’ title-winning squad in October.

The forward started his career at Cowdenbeath, scoring more than 50 goals, before moving to Partick Thistle and then Dunfermline Athletic.

Airdrie haven't played since drawing 0-0 at home to Raith Rovers on Saturday, November 24.
