Monklands amateur football round-up

THE freezing weather decimated the Monklands amateur football card at the weekend.

Fed-up teams were again left kicking their heels with referees having no choice but to postpone fixtures due to unplayable pitches.

However, Strathclyde Colts were in action and they moved to the summit of the West of Scotland Under-21 League First Division thanks to a 3-1 win over Barrhead Arthurlie.

Kieran McLachlan scored twice for the Colts with man-of-the-match Martin Campbell also on target.

The victory followed on from last Saturday’s 4-1 romp over Seafield and resulted in the Colts going two points clear at the top.

In the Caledonian League, Gartcosh United are six points behind leaders Milton in the First Division after defeating Symington 3-1.

Meanwhile, three Airdrie & Coatbridge Sunday League sides will attempt to play their fifth round ties in the Scottish Amateur Sunday Trophy this weekend.

Blairhill and Fourways will host Cleland and North Broomage respectively; Broomfield will travel to Finnart.
