HIGH-FLYING Cue Here were brought crashing back down to earth after suffering Airdrie & District Darts League defeat in Caldercruix.
There was little success for the Airdrieonians as they endured a tough night at the oche.
Cue Here travelled east full of confidence following recent results but the size of the task facing them was soon laid bare.
Wullie Stallard was again top player for the village outfit as he registered a maximum and a 17-dart win as his side cruised to a 9-3 triumph. Chic Morgan also chipped in with a 20-darter.
Although Cue Here had their moments, they couldn’t match The Clansman and a disappointing evening saw them lose their Maxwell Trophy clash into the bargain.
Champions Fourways maintained their resurgence by inflicting more misery on struggling Stables Bar.
Mitchell Boyle hit a maximum for the Plains men but Fourways were never in any trouble as they collected the points.
In Coatbridge, the match of the night saw The Forge share the spoils with Clarkston Miners.
Davy Mooney got the home side off to a great start, winning in 18 darts, but the Miners fought back to draw 6-6.
Workmen’s B were not expected to have any trouble as they welcomed Whisky Joe’s to Broomknoll Street but an upset looked to be on the cards when Davy Anderson put the visitors into a shock lead.
However, the father and son duo of Ian and Scott Gibb and a 107 checkout from John Hunter set Workies on their way to a 10-2 victory.
The Lounge are continuing to play some great arrows and it looked like business as usual when Jim Ross, Billy Orr, Ryan Henderson and George McGuinness jnr had them 4-0 up on Workmen’s A.
But the jitters set in when the hosts rallied and levelled the contest through John Regan, the father and son pair of Donald and Lee Barber and Kenny Watters jnr.
Some harsh words at half-time, though, got The Lounge back on track and they did enough to come away with the win.
Elsewhere, Jim Parker was in top form as The Swan hammered The C Team 10-2, while Fourways B earned a narrow 7-5 success at home to The Boar’s Head.
Joining The Clansman in the finals of the Maxwell Trophy are Carson’s Bar, Workmen’s B, Clarkston Miners, The Lounge, Fourways, Fourways B and The Swan.
