Silverware for Airdrie under-11s at Stirling tournament

AIRDRIE UNITED under-11s signed off a memorable season with victory in the Stirling Invitational Tournament recently.

The junior Diamonds were undefeated en route to overall success, with one of their scalps being German side Borussia Munchengladbach, who they thrashed 4-0.

Airdrie were up against Syngenta Colts in the final of the competition and neither team gave much away in a tight contest.

But one goal proved the difference and Jordan Allan’s first half strike secured the silverware for the Diamonds.

Victory in Stirling capped a brilliant campaign for Airdrie who also won the Carcavelos Trophy in Portugal, seeing off Benfica in the process.

Delighted coach Liam Brindle said: “It’s been a long, hard season for the boys.

“They were undefeated in their Development League and we travelled to Lisbon and played in temperatures in excess of 30°C but returned with the Carcavelos Trophy.

“To round off the season with another win makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

The team is now stepping up to play 11-a-side football from next season and are seeking new players to help them take on this challenge.
