Contending for player of the year

CIARAN DONNELLY has closed the gap on Bobby Barr in the race to become Albion Rovers’ player of the year.

The central midfielder picked up two points in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Annan Athletic and is now 11 behind the talented winger.

In the Airdrie United version of the competition, keeper Stephen Robertson has a five-point lead over Paul Di Giacomo.

Marc Smyth and Joe Cardle also picked up points in Sunday’s Alba Challenge Cup final success against Ross County.

At the end of the season, the best performing Rovers and Airdrie stars will receive a trophy.

The awards are kindly sponsored by the Gillespie Investment Group.
