Coatbridge girl Roberta needs your vote to win beauty contest

A COATBRIDGE dancer is hoping to gain votes from the public as she bids to reach the semi-finals of a national beauty pageant.

Roberta Childs is in the running to reach the Scottish decider of the “glamour girl of the year” competition.

The 28-year-old, of Glencairn Drive, must remain in the top 30 of the text-message popularity poll by its closing time on Sunday to secure her place.

She is currently flying high well inside the top 10, and is hoping that she will be able to go all the way to the UK final later this summer.

The overall winner will receive a host of prizes including modelling assignments, while the top 12 will feature on a calendar raising funds for several charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and Motor Neurone Disease.

Roberta has recently finished her first year studying dance at Stow College, and is also a member of a Girls Aloud tribute act.

She said: “I think this is a great positive thing for women, and I love everything about pageants and being glamorous!

“Recently I was one of the dancers at the Miss Scotland final – it was the biggest event that I’ve done and being on that stage, seeing everything that was going on, was fantastic.

“I’ve had lots of support from family and friends already but I’m looking for as many people as possible in Monklands to get behind me.

“Winning through to the final and being part of the finalists’ calendar would be brilliant, and the great thing about it is that so many charities will benefit.”

To vote for Roberta, at a cost of £1 per text, send “GLAM 1703” to 88010.
